Tony Smaller

Tony is a graduate of Victoria University of Wellington (Bachelor of Design).

His previous Court Theatre credits include Fresh Off the Boat (Set Designer). Tony has been designing sets, props and costumes for the past 25 years and his theatre credits include Hohepa (New Zealand Opera); The Biggest (Tikapa Theatre, New Zealand Premiere Wellington; Auckland Arts Festival); The Vultures (Tawata Productions, Wellington, Hamilton, Auckland); Riverside Kings (IKenSo Productions, Wellington) and Odd One Out (Capital E - National Children’s Theatre New Zealand tour). His film credits include working in the art department for Tusi Tamasese’s One Thousand Ropes (Blueskin Productions).

Tony is an exhibition designer who has exhibited nationally and internationally, including at five Prague Quadrennial festivals. He is currently the exhibition designer for Ngā Taonga Sound & Visions’ Rust & Restoration exhibition at the National Library, Wellington.

He is also a founding member of G.O.M Arts Collective with long-time collaborator and Christchurch-based theatre designer, Mark McEntyre.
