Tanya’s 30 year career in performing arts has been mainly with Pacific Underground (PU), where she found her passion for making music and theatre through devising, writing and producing. Starting out singing in bands, she eventually moved into theatre and event management in Christchurch and in Auckland.
In 2009 her play Angels, co-written with Joy Vaele, had seasons at The Court Theatre and Aranui Theatre.
Tanya’s other featured written and co-devised plays include Alisa; Filo Some Ghost to Watch Over Me; Rangi and Mau’s Fantastic Voyage; Rangi and Mau’s Amazing Race and Angels re:Born.
Recently in Auckland, Tanya spent five seasons working with Alison Quigan and Troy Tu’ua at the Māngere Arts Centre supporting the annual kids show, featuring a cast of up to 30 emerging Pasifika and Māori theatre practitioners.
In 2017 at the inaugural Māori and Pasifika Festival at The Court Theatre, Tanya’s play Scholars had its first workshop and was then presented at this year’s Fresh Ink rehearsed reading series.
Her most recent stint as Guest Director was with Y|NOT theatre collective.
Fresh Off the Boat is Tanya’s directorial debut with The Court Theatre.
