Shane Anthony

Shane is a director, movement director and dramaturg working throughout Australia and internationally. Select directing credits include Ulster American (Outhouse Theatre Co and Seymour Centre; nominated for four Sydney Theatre Awards); Our Blood Runs in the Street (Metro Arts and The Old Fitz); Anatomy of a Suicide (nominated for four Sydney Theatre Awards; Seymour Centre and The Old Fitz); The Whale (Redline Productions; nominated for eight Sydney Theatre Awards); Lighten Up (Griffin Theatre); Songs for the Fallen (New York Musical Theatre Festival; winner of Best Musical; as well as Sydney Festival, Arts Centre Melbourne and Brisbane International Arts Festival); Altar Boyz; Calendar Girls and Avenue Q (Fortune Theatre); My Name is Rachel Corrie (Downstairs Belvoir and La Boite Theatre); 3 Winters and Love and Information (National Institute of Dramatic Arts (NIDA) (Sydney));,Mrs Bang: A Series of Seductions (32nd Stage Song Festival - Poland); Often I Find That I Am Naked (Australian National Tour) and Motortown (23rd Productions; nominated for four Matilda Awards).

Movement direction includes Is This How You Feel? (Critical Stages); Our Blood Runs in the Street (Metro Arts and The Old Fitz); The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time (The Court Theatre); Angels in America (The New Theatre); Small Mercies (La Boite Theatre); movement consultant on the feature film, Sleeping Beauty, and as show director for CIRCA on their European tour of CIRCA.

He is a graduate of the Directing Program at NIDA, and Screenwriting for Feature Film at the Australian Film, Television and Radio School. In 2007 Shane travelled to New York to continue training with the Saratoga International Theatre Institute. In 2012 he received a Mike Walsh Fellowship to study filmmaking in New York and in 2015 was the recipient of an Anna Sosenko Fellowship to return there with Songs for the Fallen.

Shane facilitates workshops and seminars as a director and movement director for a vast range of companies, both nationally and internationally. He is a core tutor across several departments at NIDA including the BFA and MFA programmes, VET and Corporate. He also teaches and directs for the UK-based artist-in-education company International Schools Theatre Association, Sydney Film School, Australian Institute of Music, Sydney Theatre School and Sydney Actors School.
