Born and bred in Dunedin, Serena studied theatre at Allen Hall (University of Otago), performance at Toi Whakaari; NZ Drama School (leaving halfway through to take a core cast role in the critically acclaimed TV drama series The Insider’s Guide to Love), and the Meisner technique with Michael Saccente in Auckland.

Stage credits include The Shape of Things; The Pitman Painters (Fortune Theatre, Dunedin); 2 seasons of The 39 Steps (Circa Theatre, Wellington); and 2 years touring Spain and Portugal with Cleverpants Theatre. Onscreen appearances include The Pretender 2; StepDave 2 and local telemovies Bliss; Bloodlines; and Abandoned.

Serena has been seen on The Court stage in the immensley popular The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time and Five Women Wearing the Same Dress, the first show post February 2011 earthquake, and before The Court had its own venue.

 She was most recently seen on stage in Auckland Theatre Company’s production of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time, playing the Mrs Shears/Mrs Gascoyne ensemble part and on screen as the troublemaker Virginia Laidlaw on Shortland Street.
