Reuben Derrick is a saxophonist, clarinettist and composer. His Doctor of Musical Arts research (2014) draws upon field recording and improvisation. This body of work featured locations in New Zealand, Australia and Sri Lanka.
Ongoing projects include Hot Club style group Swing 42, punk-jazz collective Poltroon, sound design and music for theatre, as well as multi-disciplinary collaborations with dance, sculpture, circo-arts, poetry and film. He is an active member of the Cantabrian Society of Sonic Artists.
In 2016 Reuben performed with Sri Lankan folk musicians and international improvisers in the Music Matters Festival in Colombo. In 2015 he was awarded a Fulbright scholarship to attend the Music Omi residency in New York, where he collaborated with 13 musicians from around the world.
