Pos Mavaega SM

Christchurch born and bred, Pos Mavaega has worked in Pacific Underground (PU) since 1993, writing, recording and touring original music in concerts and festivals throughout the Pacific. 

At this years' Christchurch Arts Festival Pos led a stellar line up of musicians in Meet Me at The Dog House - a concert celebrating PU's 25 years in music that featured Steve Apirana, Joe Tamaira, Ladi6, Scribe, Dallas Tamaira, Mark Vanilau, Mara TK, Sarah Tamaira-Chalmers, Tanya Muagututi'a, Talia-Rae Mavaega, Andrew Sione, Seta Timo, Iona Ulaula, Ra Dallas and Flo Lafai. 

As guitar, bass player and producer Pos has toured internationally with Che Fu and King Kapisi, produced two albums, gained two residencies in Dunedin and New Caledonia, represented in the Aotearoa delegation at four Festivals of Pacific Arts and, for the past three years,  promoted Pacific Artists in Spain and Poland at WOMEX.

As an instrument technician Pos has toured with many of NZ's top artists such as Sol3 Mio, Fat Freddy's Drop, Shihad and Stan Walker.

His musical direction and sound design credits include Sons by Victor Rodger (1995); Dawn Raids by Oscar Kightley (1997 - 1998); Romeo and Tusi (1997 - 2001); Island Summer (2002 to present); Angels by Tanya Muagututi'a and Joy Vaele (2009 and 2016); Our Table; Scholars (2018 - 2019) and Goodbye My Feleni by David Mamea (2015). 

From 2014 - 2017 Pos was involved in the Mangere Arts Centre's productions for the April School holidays as a musician, and continues to assist with production. 

Pos continues PU’s mission to foster and nurture new and emerging talent.
