Melanie is a freelance theatre director based out of Christchurch. She holds a Master of Theatre Arts (Directing) from Toi Whakaari: New Zealand Drama School & Victoria University and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Canterbury.

She is a previous Associate Director of The Court Theatre. Her Court Theatre directing credits include Groundswell; Beauty and the Beast; The Gingerbread Man; The Great Art War; Postal; The Hound of the Baskervilles; Constellations and Badjelly the Witch. She was assistant director for The Mikado; Macbeth and When the Rain Stops Falling and has worked with the Court Theatre Youth Company.

Melanie has also directed The Collective (NASDA); Flagons and Foxtrots (Fortune Theatre); Noye’s Fludde (New Zealand Opera); Gameplan (Young and Hungry Arts Trust, Wellington); Twelfth Night (Wellington Summer Shakespeare) and Hamlet (Toi Whakaari).

In 2012 she was nominated for a Chapman Tripp Award for Most Promising New Director 2012 for Immaculate (Backyard Theatre, Wellington).

She is the founder of Cubbin Theatre Company for audiences under 5.
