Ngāti Whakaue, Ngāti Whare

Julie began drama classes in 1985 at Theatre Corporate and is a 1989 graduate of Toi Whakaari: NZ Drama School. She has since worked as an actor, director and vocal coach throughout New Zealand.

A familiar face to Dunedin audiences, she has appeared in over 70 Fortune Theatre productions, including Into the Woods; Twelfth Night; Hamlet; Peninsular; Four Flat Whites in Italy; Educating Rita; Lashings of Whipped Cream; Homeland; The Humble Boy and The Graduate. Her other favourite theatre credits include 1981; Te Hokinga Mai (Te Rākau Hua O Te Wao Tāpu); The Sound of Music; Game of Crones (Ben McDonald Productions); Barrier Ninja (Kia Mau Festival); Middle Age Spread (Centrepoint Theatre); Pack of Girls (Mercury Theatre) and The Taming of the Shrew (Downstage Theatre). She has also recently appeared in the Dunedin Summer Shakespeare Production of Romeo and Juliet.            

Her previous Court Theatre credits include Mum’s Choir.

In 2013 Julie was awarded ‘50+shows’ for services to New Zealand Theatre. She is a founding member of The New Athenaeum Theatre in Dunedin and a member of Equity New Zealand.
