Carmel McGlone has performed from Shakespeare to Schiller on virtually all New Zealand’s main stages, on TV and film, as well as in Australia where she was part of Simon Phillip’s core ensemble at the State Theatre Company.
She most recently co-starred with Geraldine Brophy in a two-hander penned by Brophy called Sleeping Around and played the titular role of Cleopatra in Shakespeare’s Antony and Cleopatra; Midnight in Moscow for Circa theatre and Live@Six National Tour.
Carmel also starred in the acclaimed New Zealand movie ‘Hook, Line and Sinker’; both series of the Emmy-award winning online series Reservoir Hill; the local tele-feature Rage and the television series Girl vs. Boy.
She was named ‘Actress of the Year’ for her portrayal of Lady Macbeth in 2004 and was nominated best Supporting Actress for Blood Wedding in 2009. In 2011 Carmel travelled to Shakespeare’s Globe in London on an International Actor’s Fellowship.
Last year she received an Arts Council grant study with renowned physical theatre master-trainer, John Bolton. When not acting or directing, Carmel is the Senior Drama Tutor at the Whitireia Performing Arts Centre in Wellington.
