Carl Nixon lives in his home town, Christchurch. He has a Masters in Religious Studies from the University of Canterbury. He is a full-time writer of plays, short stories and novels.
His collection of short stories, Fish ‘n’ Chip Shop Song was published in 2006 by Random House New Zealand, and went to number one on the NZ best selling fiction list. Since then he has had published three novels, Rocking Horse Road (Random House NZ, 2008); Settlers’ Creek (Random House NZ, 2010) and The Virgin and the Whale (Random House, 2013). His novels have been published in translation in Germany, France, Taiwan and China.
Matthew, Mark, Luke and Joanne is Carl’s fifth play on the main stage at The Court Theatre. The others are Kiwifruits (co-written with C. Cooper); Kiwifruits 2; The Raft; and The Birthday Boy. His other plays include Crumpy; Two Fish ‘n’ a Scoop and The War Artist.
