Barrett Hocking performs regularly for the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra and performs around the globe with the double platinum-selling group The Black Seeds, also with iconic NZ supergroup Salmonella Dub. He is also the principal trumpet of Orchestra Wellington.

Barrett is on the Brass faculty at the University of Canterbury and is the Chieftain of The Tooting Tribe based at The Piano, Christchurch. He has recently been an artist-teacher at the New Zealand School of Music (Victoria University), Wellington.

Barrett holds a Master of Arts from the Royal Academy of Music, London, a Licentiate of the Royal Academy of Music (Brass Education).

Barrett is a skilled musician with many ensembles and styles to his credit. Prior to his study abroad, he completed a Bachelor of Music (Jazz) and gained an Honours degree (Classical) from the New Zealand School of Music (Victoria University), Wellington.

Barrett is also a keen outdoors enthusiast, competing in Endurance and Multisport events around the country.
