The Court Theatre apologises sincerely to the transgender and gender diverse communities for the distress caused by our casting decision on Things I Know to be True.

We appreciate the courage of the artists and members of the community who have communicated with us over this issue, and we offer our thanks for reaching out. We welcome the complexity of these conversations and moving forward we are committed to being active in the development of industry policies and guidelines to support transgender and gender diverse artists.

In collaboration with Circa Theatre, the production team, and with the support of the actor originally cast, we are taking the necessary steps to recast this role with an appropriate performer from the transgender and gender diverse community. We commit to putting in place measures to ensure this new cast member will be supported, and we are seeking guidance from experts in the trans community as to how best to support someone coming into the role.

This change will be implemented as soon as is feasible and safe for the incoming performer to do so.

Ngā mihi nui,
The Court Theatre
