Update 10 February 2022:
Due to the Red light Covid-19 setting and the presence of omicron in our community, we have made the difficult decision to postpone Next to Normal until the 2023 season.
Although audiences of up to 100 are currently permitted, this is not viable for us, especially when sickness or isolation of cast and crew members are quite likely to occur, closing the show at a few hours’ notice. To minimise risk to our audience members, cast and crew, staff and wider community, and to ensure that this Pulitzer Prize-winning musical has the full audiences it deserves, we believe rescheduling it to 2023 is the best option.
We know that this is disappointing news, especially for those of you have received other postponement notices from us recently. However, we are glad to be able to offer you the opportunity to still see this truly wonderful play in 2023.
You will receive a credit for your booking and the Box Office team will process these credits automatically for you; you do not need to contact them. If you would prefer a refund, please contact the Box Office team on communications@courttheatre.org.nz.
We very much appreciate your patience through what have been a couple of uncertain weeks and hope that we can welcome you back to The Court, safely, very soon.

On the surface, they are the typical suburban family. Underneath it all, they are struggling to navigate their way through life and all its troubles.
In this award-winning rock musical, audiences are given an intimate look into the lives of each family member.
Natalie’s aim is just to make it through high school unscathed, whilst her father Dan has far bigger concerns, the main one being his wife Diana’s mental health.
Winner of three Tony Awards, including Best Musical Score, and the 2010 Pulitzer Prize, Next To Normal will have you asking yourself what “normal” actually looks like.

COVID -19 and Vaccination Information
The Court Theatre and Vaccine Certificates
Update: 19.11.2021
Under the COVID-19 Protection Framework, more commonly called the traffic light system, to be introduced soon, the Government has mandated that indoor events (such as performances) will require staff and customers to be fully vaccinated.
Once the Ministry of Health advises that Canterbury can move to the traffic light system, The Court Theatre will require visitors to have a current vaccination certificate for entry to shows, or to access food or beverage, for people 12-years-old and over. This will enable us to maximise opportunities to operate at capacity, and as safely as possible, for our audience members, staff and cast members.
We will follow Government guidelines pertaining to the use of exemption certificates.
If you are not vaccinated by the time of your booked performance, then we will follow our re-booking (for a performance after you have been fully vaccinated) or refund process.
The implementation for the COVID-19 Protection Framework is still in development. While this progresses, we want to give everyone enough time to get fully vaccinated so that, once it is implemented, we can begin to share our community life again.
You can find more information about vaccination certificates here.
