Morehu Solomon3

Morehu Solomon is the Kaihapai Toi (Māori & Pasifika producer) at The Court Theatre. He is of Māori descent, affiliated to Te Arawa (Bay of Plenty), Ngati Kahungunu (Hawkes Bay) and Ngati Porou (East Coast).

Morehu attended Otago University, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Performing Arts, DipGrad in Māori and PGDipPH in Public Health. He is presently researching a Post- Grad study in Theatre and Film at Canterbury University. Morehu arrived in Christchurch in 2013 and secured a teaching position at Aranui High School as HOD Drama.

Working with Māori and Pasifika communities allowed Morehu the unique opportunity to build relationships using education as the vehicle. Professional theatre is no different and he sees this role as an awesome opportunity to strengthen the foundations to establish a Māori & Pasifika theatre community in Christchurch. The Court Theatre education program is a key component that allows school communities throughout Christchurch to engage with live theatre and participate.

Musical Theatre is probably Morehu's favourite genre which he enjoys very much. His brief musical journey includes Māori Opera Theatre's Waituhi by Witi Ihimaera (1983); The Rocky Horror Show; Sweeney Todd; Footrot Flats; South Pacific; Grease; Jesus Christ Superstar; Oliver; James and the Giant Peach and Awatea.

His main objective at The Court is to build relationships, foster and create opportunities for Māori and Pasifika practitioners to develop their skills and an opportunity for Court staff to interact.
