About the show

In this daring adaptation of the classic novel, young scientist Victor Frankenstein brings to life a man-made creature, sewing together dead body parts with little thought to the consequences.

Abandoned by his maker and treated to the worst of humanity’s scorn, the Creature becomes intent on finding Frankenstein and making him pay...

With two actors alternating between the roles of the scientist and his creation, this international hit explores the eternal themes of humanity, good vs evil and what happens when we blur the line between life and death.

Treatment for this version

Physicality and imagery is the spine of the retelling of this story. There is an ensemble of 15 performers to build worlds, fill ensemble roles, and tell the story through movement. The process will be collaborative, fast and physical.

Roles available

VICTOR FRANKENSTEIN/THE CREATURE

Victor Frankenstein - Creator of The Creature. Victor becomes obsessed with the idea of creating the human form and acts upon it. Immediately after creating the monster, he falls into a depression and fear. He leaves the school and returns home to his family, only to find tragedy there. Not fully aware of the consequences of his creating a new human, he spends his entire life trying to destroy the same creation.

The Creature - The creature created by Victor Frankenstein while at the University of Ingolstadt. The creature faces rejection and fear from his creator and society. The rejection from society pushes him to commit murder against his creator's family.

ELIZABETH LAVENZA

Victor’s Cousin. Elizabeth later becomes Victor's wife and is killed by the monster on their honeymoon. She is a champion for the poor and underprivileged.

Self-tape instructions

VICTOR FRANKENSTEIN/THE CREATURE:

Please prepare both of the pieces of text on the attached document. If cast you will be alternating nightly between the two roles, so prepare an offer for each character. Please bring an offer of physicality for the creature- experiment with your idea of a person who has to be very purposeful with all their physical and speech movements - feel free to take your time around the text to show this.
