FLAGONS AND FOXTROTS AUDITIONS 

The Court Theatre is seeking actors for various roles in: 

Flagons and Foxtrots by Ross Gumbley and Alison Quigan
Directed by Kathleen Burns 

Rehearsals:  25 July – 13 August 2022
Show season: 13 August  17 September 2022

A note on “SKILLS REQUIRED”

1)  “Basic dance” refers to the ability to do the dance hall favourites of the time. This includes the waltz, gay gordons, the foxtrot, and the twist. You won’t need to know what they are on arrival; they will be taught.

2)  While there are recommended allocations of instruments to the members of The Archie Moore Trio, casting is open to looking at different configurations of these. In fact, let us know if you play more than one instrument.


Roles being considered: 


Jill – 20s. A dental nurse who can’t wait to marry her boyfriend Jack. Loves to help her Dad and Aunty Ina run the dances.

SKILLS REQUIRED: Basic dance.

DANCE: Just let us know what your dance background is. 

 

Rita – 20s. A nurse who sings at the dances. Best friend of Jill… suddenly faced with a life-changing situation that could change all of that.

SKILLS REQUIRED: Basic dance. Sings “You Don’t Own Me”. 

TEXT: See scene below. 

MUSIC: Please sing one minute of a song from the period. That could be the actual song she sings or not.

DANCE: Just let us know what your dance background is. 

 

Archie  20s. Pinkie’s older brother. A mechanic by day, has dreams of being a rock 'n' roll star. Plays guitar in The Archie Moore Trio.

SKILLS REQUIRED: Basic dance. Plays guitar and lead vocals.

TEXT: See scene below. 

MUSIC: Please showcase your voice and instrument playing abilities with a song from the period. Casting is open to seeing more than one instrument; one minute will suffice, but more if you are playing more than one instrument.

DANCE: Just let us know what your dance background is. 

 

Pinkie – Late teens. Archie’s younger brother. He’s the drummer in the trio, and it’s his first time at the dance.

SKILLS REQUIRED: Basic dance. Plays drums and backing vocals.

Jack  20s. Jill’s boyfriend. A postie and a piano player in the trio. Wants to get out of this small town.

SKILLS REQUIRED: Basic dance. Plays piano and backing vocals.
